Arizona Cardinals’ player Tyrann Mathieu is calling out all dog owners who feel their precious pups can survive locked in a car, on a hot summer day.

The free safety recently teamed up with PETA to create a public service announcement to demonstrate the dangers of leaving your pooch unattended in your vehicle.

In the video clip, the 23-year-old illustrates what could happen when getting into an SUV that has been parked in 90-degree weather. “I seriously couldn’t imagine leaving my dog in the car like this,” the Honey Badger said while still inside.

To his surprise, it was only minutes before Mathieu began fanning himself and sweating excessively. At one point, it appeared that the pro-athlete couldn’t handle the heat at all.

After eight short minutes, Mathieu called it quits, stmbling out of the car, t-shirt drenched — the car reached a scorching 120 degrees. The PSA is a friendly reminder that although dogs are man’s best friend, they don’t have the same capabilities people do (they can’t sweat, and they can’t remove themselves from this situation should it become unbearable).

“If you’re going to make a dog a part of your family, then make him a part of your family,” Mathieu said. “Don’t treat him like you wouldn’t treat someone you cared about or someone you loved.” The pro athlete shared the video on his Facebook writing… “Dogs can’t survive being trapped in a hot car & neither could I!”

What do you think of Mathieu’s PSA… message received?
