Attending an HBCU is a marvelous experience for many but for some institutions’ failure to deliver prompt student services can cause significant problems. Apparently, this is currently the case at Howard University located in Washington, DC. Students at the school have had enough of bad customer service, poor facilities and broken promises and are rallying on campus and social media to protest.

Students and alumni have adopted #takebackHU slogan and the complaints have gone viral. Students have made complaints about mice, mold in dorm rooms, fees and a lumbering bureaucracy that has not addressed the myriad of problems at the school:

@TheDarkoKnight life? Life is abundant in the Towers. Rat life, roach life, bug life but not Reslife #TakeBackHU

These complaints have gone viral and made #takebackHU the third highest trending topic on Twitter, forcing the administration to meet with students on Thursday to address the issue. A spokesperson for the administration at Howard University issued the following statement: “The Howard University administration is aware of student concerns and continues to take action to address them. This morning administration officials met with members of student leadership to apprise them of work that has been done up to this point and to highlight the challenges still ahead. The administration and student leaders are working collaboratively on providing responses to student concerns and meeting their needs. The university has an unwavering commitment to academic excellence and ensuring that students have what’s needed in the classroom and beyond.”

Despite these complaints, many students still love Howard University and just want the problems fixed.
