Omarion cancels appearance at DSTRKT after club denied Black women who were ‘too dark’

Omarion took a stand against a London nightclub that was accused of racism. On Sept. 26, Zalika Miller and four of her friends attempted to party at DSTRKT nightclub in London. However, the promoter told Miller that if she was bringing Black girls than they needed to have a certain look.

When they arrived at the club, the person at the door told them the club was at full capacity. But other White men and women were allowed to enter the club afterwards. Miller, who knew the club promoter, sent several text messages. The promoter responded by saying that Miller’s friends were “too dark” and “overweight” to be allowed entry. Miller, who is an actress, took to social media and shared her story as other people revealed similar incidents of racism.

Dozens of people protested at DSTRKT and called for all Black celebrities to boycott the venue. Karrucehe Tran received some backlash after she made an appearance at the club days after the women were denied. Karrueche denounced the discrimination allegations, but some were upset that she decided to party at the club.

On Oct. 2, promoters at DSTRKT announced an appearance by Omarion. However, the R&B star tweeted that he would not support the club. Reportedly, the club owners have denied discrimination, but they have yet to apologize to the women who were insulted due to their skin tone.

Your right… Like harriet tubman said,, i freed a thousand slaves, i would have freed more if only they knew they were slave too. Not all money is good money.

      • Tisha Gee on October 5, 2015 at 4:48 pm

too bad you can’t tell Karuche’s ignorant behind that! dumb blonde of the black race!!

        • BeeFrmNYC on November 23, 2015 at 5:16 am

          She’s oriental Philippino though..

          • Tisha Gee on November 24, 2015 at 4:39 pm

never use the term oriental when referring to Asian people..that’s equivalent to calling black folks Negros…you mean she’s Asian/Black mix? it offends them when you use Oriental..no one talks like that now that we understand it has no meaning when referring to people,…food, but not people…

          • BeeFrmNYC on December 2, 2015 at 6:29 am

Ok fine if that makes you happy. But totally besides the point. The point of the matter is, she isn’t black. She’s 100% Philippino which is why it’s a non-issue for her. And when I say non issue for her, the club rascist rules against black women wouldn’t apply

          • Tisha Gee on December 3, 2015 at 9:55 am

Ok you big dummy when they start denying 100% Filipino women then maybe it will become an issue; all I’m trying to do is educate your ignorant ass; no one walks around calling Asian people Oriental unless they are completely uneducated or politically incorrect..which in your case is both I see

          • Tisha Gee on December 3, 2015 at 9:57 am

and one more thing: not sure where you get your stats from, but she considers herself a black girl..in many an interview on line and various social websites..so if you consider yourself black then honor that race. she’s the dumb blonde of the black race like i said before.

          • BeeFrmNYC on December 3, 2015 at 11:42 am

(Yawn*) Like I said, FINE if that makes you happy. Your entitled to your “opinion,” as am I. I guess referring to south Americans as Latinos, & Spanish people from Spain is wrong to huh? Or Americans as Americans? Maybe I could have said Asian, but I don’t entertain bellicose belligerent behavior from imbecile antagonistic internet trolls. I wish you were impetuous about something more important in the world then trolling a comment section. Because the way your carrying on tells me all I need to know about your “education” & that you certainly shouldn’t be trying to educate anyone on anything. Everyone’s entitled to there opinion so go forth & carry on. But I shall no longer reply to your foolery. Get a life & soon please.

          • Tisha Gee on December 4, 2015 at 2:03 pm

because someone corrects your (not you’re) ignorance doesn’t mean they don’t have a life or that they’re (not there) an Internet troll

About time…These black celebrities never stand up for what’s right!

    • miwe3 on October 3, 2015 at 3:31 pm

There are Black celebrities who stand up for what’s right, Jesse Williams and Viola Davis come to mind…Generalizations based on race are not good (nor accurate).

      • UdonNo on October 3, 2015 at 6:46 pm

HE’S RIGHT WHEN IT COMES TO YOUNG RAPPERS AND SINGERS. MOST ARE TOO SCARED WITH THEY REP. THE PUBLIC ENEMY DAYS ARE LONG GONE. ITS ALL ABOUT POPPIN BOTTLES AND TWERKING

        • Rhondayes on October 4, 2015 at 8:50 am

One or two of them even said they wouldn’t be hiring black dancers for their videos. This pissed me off. Black women held shit down. They still need to support and hold their families down. These pieces of shit don’t care?

        • andrewi on October 4, 2015 at 11:13 am

This is all by design. 20 years ago white people figured out that records like “Fight the power” put white police officers and dominant power structure at risk. It’s not the real reason they shut down conscious Hip-Hop, but it’s what they will tell us.

Black people can’t speak freely to their people whilst under the management of a white boss any more than Christians can truly worship under a Muslim priest.

      • Kim Ber Lee on October 3, 2015 at 8:47 pm

        Ben said these, not all…

      • Rhondayes on October 4, 2015 at 8:45 am

I’m sure he only meant 99.9% of them. I wouldn’t run and do cartwheels over the two that care.

      • Stefanie Marie Cross-McNeil on October 4, 2015 at 11:18 am

You won’t find either of them in a club… I believe he meant the younger stars… And he is right these/most (young, black stars) won’t stand up for what is right

      • SimoneC on October 4, 2015 at 12:56 pm

I understand your point, but the majority of them don’t.

  4. Public_Programming on October 3, 2015 at 3:25 pm

Of course Karruche would attend- she’s a typical basic thirst bucket that needs the money. Built her career off the exotic look to a black man.

    • GiaA on October 3, 2015 at 3:47 pm

Right! She’s not even a celebrity, just dated one! So of course she’s going to try to get and keep her pocket fat by riding off the coat tails of Chris Brown.

    • SimoneC on October 4, 2015 at 12:54 pm

Exactly! I hate when *some* mixed women want to claim their blackness but when it’s actually important to stand up for that side of their heritage, they look the other way!

    • Even if you tried on October 4, 2015 at 2:40 pm

So you want her to support black women when those same black women call her out of her name on the daily? She’s been called race cake, kamikaze, ling ling, and such, but she’s supposed to stop drop and roll to support 3 chicks that can’t get in the club? Please, she got her money….miss me with all of that….#blasian lives matter too#

      • Estafador on October 4, 2015 at 3:58 pm

blasian is a rarity in itself. Bet she wouldn’t care if her fellow Asian race (whatever nationality her other side is) was treated the same way.

        • Even if you tried on October 4, 2015 at 4:12 pm

Wrong. She actually made a statement about the whole incident AND one of the organisers of the protest apologized to her on her Twitter account. People have been extremely racist towards her for a while but when something comes up that they support they expect her to support them. She was right to go get her money.

          • msles70 on October 5, 2015 at 3:07 pm

Um, she shouldn’t support them because they are black, she should support them because she is. I guarantee no Asians are claiming her. It’s really not that complicated.

          • Public_Programming on October 5, 2015 at 4:30 pm

            Exactly..

          • Public_Programming on October 5, 2015 at 4:30 pm

Oh please. These chicks float in and out the black community all day. Pretending to be down to be accepted, but then acting clueless when it’s time to stand for something. She’s eating because of her blk side. Marinate on that.

          • Public_Programming on October 5, 2015 at 4:35 pm

If she ever blows up she won’t be claiming nothing black trust that.

          • Estafador on October 5, 2015 at 5:50 pm

I’m guessing you believe her too? If someone told you they were wrong and sorry that they blatently in full knowing what they were doing, called you a racist remark would you believe them? Take everything with a grain of salt my fellow commenter.

        • msles70 on October 5, 2015 at 5:52 pm

Blasian is not a rarity. Sheesh, my dad and uncles are blasians, and they are like 60. It is pretty common, but usually they are raised black.

          • Estafador on October 5, 2015 at 6:34 pm

just because your dad and uncles are blasian doesn’t mean it’s not rare. That was hilarious what you just suggested.

          • msles70 on October 5, 2015 at 6:41 pm

True, that is not why it’s not rare, lol. I just live on the West Coast, and believe me, it is one of the most common of the mixes out here. I guess it’s all in where you live.

      • Noirluv45 on October 4, 2015 at 4:29 pm

I never asked her to support Black women. I don’t know of one who cares.

      • Public_Programming on October 5, 2015 at 4:26 pm

TF is a race cake? You mean rice cake? Stop believing in all things Twitter-do you even know whose behind a profile pic. And the only time I’ve known her to get drug is after she dissed Blu Ivy hair on BET and rightly so. No sense in sounding mad cause she’s a side piece riding off the back of black culture. Glad she got her couple dollars..Hope it’s worth it in the end..TFOH

    • Estafador on October 4, 2015 at 3:57 pm

had to look up who karruche was. She must not be popular because she’s not making waves. Is she even black?

      • Christy on October 5, 2015 at 3:55 am

if you looked her up, you would see that she’s half black…???

      • msles70 on October 5, 2015 at 3:08 pm

She’s black and Asian. Which means – black, because Asians don’t claim people that are half.

      • cynn on October 5, 2015 at 7:51 pm

        No

    • cynn on October 5, 2015 at 7:46 pm

Hell yes, plus she is not a black woman.

  5. Bob Sandoval on October 3, 2015 at 3:44 pm

Let’s hope the people involved in this decision not try to get into a club that requires an IQ above room temperature – ’cause they will be turned away!

  6. Taj B. on October 3, 2015 at 4:46 pm

Omarion I love you even more for this!!!
Unlike Karrechue who claimed “she is half black” but still made an appearance at the club You did wat many should do!

  7. missgigi on October 3, 2015 at 5:05 pm

Ray CHarles was banned from playing in the south because he stood up against segregation and Jim CROW. His homestate of Georgia actually banned him from the state. He couldn’t even bury his mother.

  22. Estafador on October 4, 2015 at 3:58 pm

I have a feeling the real problem is that even if black folks deny these clubs, enough non blacks go to make up for the lost revenue.

    • Noirluv45 on October 4, 2015 at 4:24 pm

Well, let them pay, but our money should not be spent at a club that dishonors us.

      • Estafador on October 5, 2015 at 6:11 pm

agreed. More money in my pocket to buy that new car that club hoppers can’t afford.

    🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

  24. Tee on October 4, 2015 at 4:42 pm

I have never really been a big Omarion supporter, but I will purchase hit next album, just because his stance. People, we will never be united as one, we will never have the support of the entire world, we will never have the rich back the poor, so what we need to do is change the legislation, change city ordinance, hit people in their pocket books, and never stop fighting the fight. People like Waka Flocka does not care, because he feels he made it, so who cares, Jay Z made it, so who cares. Well, that’s life, we can’t cry over spilled milk, just try to make it so the next person does not have to deal with the discrimination. Winning one small battle at a time is better than trying to win the entire war at once. The women should sue the promoter, the club, the security at the door and let the chips fall where they may. This will bring attention to the club ways, because it happens all over the world, not just London.

I’m still shocked this is happening in London; they have such a huge Jamaican and African population who actually mix with the British via marriage, dating, etc. I’m really shocked that this club would promote such fuckery

  32. Tisha Gee on October 5, 2015 at 4:52 pm
