Just when you think the bigotry of Donald Trump could not get any worse, it does. Trump has been well known for his bloviating statements regarding illegal “aliens” and building a wall along the southern border of the United States. But now he has jumped fully aboard the anti-Islam wagon with his recent appearance on “Fox News Business with Stuart Varney.” At issue was the recent announcement that British Prime Minister David Cameron has proposed to close mosques if a worshiper is linked to ISIS. Trump stated, “Absolutely I think it’s great” when asked about the proposal. When further pressed on the issue and asked would he do the same thing, Trump responded “I would do that…Absolutely, I think it’s great.” Trump was then asked did he have the power to do such a thing in America. Trump stated “Well, I don’t know…I mean, I haven’t heard about the closing of the mosque. It depends, if the mosque is, you know, loaded for bear, I don’t know. You’re going to have to certainly look at it.”
The more Trump speaks on his beliefs and understanding of the presidency, his dangerous ideologies emerge. Trump has the appearance of a man who would pick and choose which portion of the US Constitution he would adhere to. The US Constitution guarantees religious freedom in America; it was one of the tenets that led to the founding of America. In these dangerous social and political climates, a Trump presidency would be a disaster.
