The life and times of the late entertainer Sammy Davis, Jr. is coming to the big and small screen in the near future thanks to Byron Allen‘s Byron Allen Entertainment Studios.
Allen, a former comedian turned media mogul, is currently developing a documentary, movie and TV series based on the 2008 Matt Birkbeck biography of Davis titled “Deconstructing Sammy.” The scripted television series will look at the world of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s from the point of view of Davis.
“I personally knew and worked with Sammy Davis, Jr.,” said Allen. “Sammy hired me to open for him at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas when I was a 19-year-old stand-up comedian. That’s where my fascination with his incredible story began.”
Allen went on to say that Birkbeck’s biography of Davis, “…is an amazing work of literature. It is the perfect foundation for a movie, a scripted television series, and a documentary about this legendary global icon.”
Though all three projects are in various stages of development, production on the film is set to begin in Spring 2016.
