Months ago, we revealed that a biopic based on Toni Braxton’s popular memoir, Un-Break My Heart, was in the works at Lifetime. Now, the project has officially signed its leading lady.
While it was originally reported that the famed singer would star as herself in the upcoming made-for-TV film, it looks like the small screen title will feature a newbie actress playing Braxton’s younger self. Newcomer Lex Scott Davis (Straight Outta Compton) has been tapped, marking her first major film role. Previously, Davis has held minor TV roles, The Wrap reports.
Unbreak My Heart based on the singer’s 2014 memoir of the same title, is set to focus on Braxton’s music career as well as her marital struggles and divorce, her financial hardships, and her son’s autism. Braxton will serve as the executive producer, in addition to taking on a small role in the film. Following the airing of the biopic, Lifetime will also premiere a one-hour special titled “Beyond The Headlines: Toni Braxton,” featuring interviews with family and close friends.
Meanwhile, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds is also set to produce the film. Unbreak My Heart premieres on Jan. 23, 2016, at 8 p.m. “Beyond The Headline: Toni Braxton,” will air at 10 p.m.
