The quarterback position is the most important in football. The de facto team leader must have a combination of skills and knowledge to be great on the field. Because of the pressures of the position, Black quarterbacks have often been marginalized in the past by coaches who believed that Black men didn’t have the wherewithal to properly handle the position. However, several prominent NFL quarterbacks have proved that theory wrong. We have compiled a list of the 10 best NFL quarterbacks of all time.

10. Cam Newton

Cam Newton will likely rise on this list by the time he retires from the NFL. In five seasons, he has thrown for over 100 touchdowns and has rushed for over 3,000 yards. He is currently on pace to capture the NFL’s MVP award while leading the undefeated Carolina Panthers.

9. James Harris

James Harris played during an era where he was the only starting Black quarterback in the NFL. He led the Rams to a playoff victory and was a Pro Bowl quarterback in 1974 and walked away as the game’s MVP.
