Timbaland’s camp has finally responded to news reports that the superstar producer refused to perform at a recent benefit event for the Flint, Michigan water crisis because he was given the wrong brand of champagne.
A number of outlets reported that Tim reneged on his scheduled 30 minute set at Bleu nightclub in Detroit on Thursday night after he was given bottles of Dom Perignon despite specifically requesting Jay Z’s Ace of Spades. Club owner Mitchell Jaworski said Timbaland and crew didn’t seem to mind the Dom while they were drinking it all and then some.
“They had about 15 bottles of liquor and champagne, which is extremely excessive especially for a charity event,” Jaworski said. “They seemed more concerned about getting every drop of liquor.”
Instead of deejaying a 30 minute set and performing between five to eight songs per the alleged contract, Timbaland is reported to have taken the stage after 1 a.m. to greet the crowd and only nodded his head to a few songs the other deejay played.
Timabaland’s camp, however, present a different version of the night’s events.
“Unfortunately, the statement made by the promoter in Detroit is simply not true,” a rep for Timbo told Billboard. “Timbaland is an extremely generous person who agreed to a much lower fee for this event to raise money for Flint, Michigan’s water crisis. The promoter was fully aware that this was not a full band performance on stage, yet still promoted it as such. The club was still able to raise money for charity, which was our goal in doing this event all along.”
Drama aside, the event proved to be a success nonetheless and was able to raise over $3K to go towards buying water and filters for the residents of Flint as they continue to deal with the ongoing water crisis caused by high levels of lead and other contaminants in the city’s drinking water due to government neglect.
