Iman took to Twitter yesterday for the first time since the death of her husband, music legend David Bowie on January 10.
The model and actress shared a simple message that read “Love & Gratitude” to thank fans for their outpouring of support in the wake of Bowie’s death from liver cancer.
The update marks Iman’s first post in nearly a month and reiterates a previous message tweeted by Bowie’s oldest son, film director Duncan Jones, that read, “Just wanted to thank you for the incredibly kind words & thoughts.”
Last month family friend Bethann Hardison told People Magazine that the Somali-American model is doing “fine” but the grief “comes in waves.”
“She’s fine. We’re fine. We’re holding up,” Hardison said. “It comes in waves, you know. He’s a great loss – not just a loss as an artist, but as a human.”
Together for over 25 years, and married since 1992, the couple are said to have been instantly attracted to each other with an incredibly strong connection that endured throughout their marriage.
“They really knew each other because they had come up and traveled in the same circles. They were great together,” friend Teddy Antolin said. “She was a real force and he needed a woman by his side to keep him focused.”
According to a 2010 interview, Iman said the two were a bit like night and day but managed to balance one another out.
“David doesn’t fight,” she said. “He is English, so he just stays quiet. I’m the screamer. Then he always makes me laugh. It’s like cabaret. I keep him entertained, too. I still fancy him – totally! – after all these years.”
