What’s your real name? Describe your personality.
My government name is Chika Moma, but they call me Skitzo for a reason. My personality is kind of all over the place mainly on the edge of wild and free. I’m kind hearted and spirited but I also have a streak of crazy.
What made you turn to IG to display your talents?
It’s actually something I fell into, Id always been the class clown and people have always told me I was funny. One day I had an idea randomly for a skit and I made it. Once i uploaded it I guess you could say I struck gold, my local radio station reposted it and it got a lot of buzz, quite some time later, here I am today. Constantly thinking of new ways to grow my online presence.
When was the first time you realized that you were accepted into the social media comedians’ circle?
I think it was when they came to me and added me to their secret society. I can’t tell you much about it, I got inducted and everything it was a pretty lengthy process. No, but really one day a group of them came and invited me into their group and since then we’ve been like family. Really informal but very special.
Do you believe that the social media comedians can stand a chance against the traditional stand-up comedians? Why?
I believe social media comedians have their own lane; it’s not easy to compare the two because the platforms are completely different. In my opinion you don’t need to do stand up to be considered a real comedian, acting can do the job as well. On that note I also know that a social media comedian has the upper hand once they get the right training and support because they’ve already grown a fan base all over the world without having to leave their home. Traditionally that is really hard to do, and expensive.
Who are some of your influencers in the industry?
Kevin Hart, I love everything about him from his delivery to his grind. Also Martin is an all time favorite. The mere fact that his work is still syndicated and people who have watched every episode a thousand times can still find it hilarious that is what I call a legend.
With social media being your platform, how does it impact your career?
It allows me to be more personable. I can be direct and actually reach them on a closer level. I actually respond to my snapchat and emails. It also allows for me to receive feedback and to craft my work better. I enjoy hearing things that make me better or encourage me. I think the encouraging words are my most favorite perk of being reachable.
Prior comedians wrote their shows out, do you follow the same protocol or would you consider your style more improv? How do you come up with some of your concepts?
I definitely like to have a structured plan, so that I can be at ease knowing things will go well. There is nothing worse than getting on stage and realizing the crowd isn’t giving you much to work with. Its actually one of my fears so I make sure that I have a well rehearsed set when I plan to hop on stage. Some people can do improv, I shine when I have time to develop my creativity and then display it.
With social media being the one of the fastest growing trends for new-age comedians, what makes you different from other social media comedians?
I take a lot of pride in the fact that I try to go beyond the call of duty when it comes to quality. From the quality of my video, to my editing style, each time I post I try my best to bring publication quality work. On top of that, I feel I’m pretty hilarious without having to curse much or use my body or anything like that. Humor you can show your mother without feeling embarrassed. I’m proud of that!
What’s next for you?
Of course I’m still posting on IG, but my main focus at this point will be building my YouTube so that I can have longer skits and develop the characters even more. I started a podcast at the beginning of the year called “The Bombshell Show” on iTunes, Tune In, and the video version on YouTube. It’s kind of my baby at the moment. We talk about the hot topics of the day, I have an advice segment called Dear Skitzo and there are some really good life lessons you can get from it.
