The Fernwood community on the South Side of Chicago was the setting for a police standoff that lasted 11 hours. Kevin Robinson, suspected of killing three people, barricaded himself in a South Side home once he was tracked down by the Chicago police.
Police believe that Robinson shot his girlfriend, Makeesha Starks, Kiara Kinard and Jerome Wright on Wednesday night.
According to police, Robinson dropped his girlfriend off at home, walked into the home and put a gun to his head, threatening to kill himself.
He then ordered Starks, who was in the basement, to come upstairs and he opened fire. Starks was shot in the head and died at the scene. Wright, who was also shot in the head, died at the scene. Kinard was shot in the back and later died at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois.
The quiet South Side neighborhood was lined with tanks and swat units. Police blocked any access to the city block.
Chicago Swat units descended upon the home in the Fernwood neighborhood where the standoff ensued. Robinson exchanged fire with the officers. Tear gas was hurled into the home. Once they entered, the home Robinson was found dead from a gunshot wound.
It is reported that Robinson’s family stressed that he was trying to surrender when he was killed. They do not believe that he killed himself.
Superintendent Eddie Robinson said during the press conference that Kevin Robinson was no stranger to the justice system. “He’s been previously arrested for attempted murder, convicted of armed robbery, possession of a fire arm and aggravated battery.” “it’s unbelievable the amount of violence we have to suffer in the city of Chicago” said Superintendent Robinson
This is yet another example of the violence that is plaguing the city of Chicago.
