The Beyhive has been buzzing with excitement for the last 19 hours since Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Lawson, 62, posted a sweet photo of her ex-husband, Mathew Knowles, 64, reuniting with their eldest daughter, Beyoncé, 34, backstage at her Formation World Tour stop in Houston, Bey’s hometown. Lawson simply captioned the photo, “Houston Concert proud dad!!!!” and followed the snap with another photo of Knowles with their younger daughter, Solange, 29, and her son Daniel. She captioned the second photo, “Proud daddy and grandpa Houston.”

The family reunion, which took place on May 18, came as a surprise to most fans that assumed Beyoncé remained estranged from her father, who was once her manager. For years, the two bumped heads as rumors of Knowles’ infidelity attracted headlines. Beyoncé actually sang about the pain of witnessing his cheating on many tracks, including the compelling “Resentment.” Through the years, the cheating led to a split between Lawson and Knowles, and two women stepping forward claiming Knowles fathered their children. Needless to say, Bey seemed to want to separate herself from her father and for a long time it appeared the separation would be final.
The Houston reunion, which was well received by most fans, comes after the release of Beyoncé’s wildly popular album Lemonade. On the album, the singer reveals the pain she’s felt throughout her life as she’s faced her father’s cheating as his daughter and now a woman who is married. Specifically, on the single “Daddy Lessons,” she shares that Knowles taught her that she shouldn’t trust men like him.
When asked about the album’s success and popular HBO special, Knowles told SiriusXM, “I can only speak of being a proud father. I think Beyoncé pushed the envelope of creativity on this HBO special.”
Well, we are excited for this entire family. Their willingness to move on and let go of old baggage should provide inspiration for us all.
What do you think of the reunion? Should Beyoncé welcome Knowles back into her life?
