Attrell Cordes, known to fans as “Prince Be,” of the critically acclaimed music duo P.M. Dawn has died. He was 46.

Cordes was one of two brothers who made up the R&B group died Friday, June 17, of diabetes and renal kidney disease at a hospital in his home state of New Jersey, his rep confirms told CNN. He is survived by his wife Mary and three children: Christian, Mia and Brandon.

One of the most influential voices of the ’90s, Cordes formed PM Dawn with his brother Jarett in the late 1980s — describing its name as a nod to “the idea that in the darkest hour comes the light,” according to their website. In 1991, their hit “Set Adrift on Memory Bliss” soared to the top of the charts, sitting at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Shortly thereafter, in 1992, their single “I’d Die Without You” was featured in Eddie Murphy’s cult classic comedy Boomerang.

The Jersey City, New Jersey, natives went on to release three more albums together. However, like many groups who find instant success, Cordes and his brother eventually parted ways as a musical act.

“Prince Be Rest In Peace forever more, Pain from Diabetes can’t harm you anymore, My Heart is at Peace B-Cuz U suffered so long, Tell Grandma I said Hi & Stay Blisstatic & Strong. – Love Doc.G” a post read on the group’s Facebook page.

Naturally, the loss hit true R&B lovers hard. “PM Dawn was a large part of my life, like so many others. Prince Be was a poet extraordinaire. Thanks for all the wonderful music, and I’ll be looking out for my new lil’ sis, MC,” wrote one user.

“2016 sucks the life out of you just can’t believe that sooo many are leaving us so young RIP PRINCE B PM DAWN ALWAYS SPECIAL IN MY HEART???,” penned another.

Our prayers and condolences go out to Cordes’ family. Show them some love and support in the comment section below.
