Another unarmed Black man has been killed by police. This time, the man was killed while eating a piece of chicken. According to Broward New Times, the incident occurred after a domestic call to a Pompano Beach, Florida home.
Gregory Frazier, 56, began arguing with his niece after a small dispute. Frazier’s sister called police so that the argument would not get out of hand. But when police arrived, the argument was over and Frazier decided to calm down by eating chicken wings and fries in his backyard.
Three White police officers arrived on the scene without seeking to understand the situation. They yelled to Frazier to get down on the ground. Frazier responded by telling officers to leave him alone and continued to eat his chicken. Although he was never a threat to police or the public, the officers shot Frazier six times in the back. The officers then handcuffed Frazier as he gasped for air. He soon went unconscious and died at the scene.
The officers involved reacted like sociopaths to an incident that should have never led to deadly force. But it reveals, again, how a lot of officers across the nation are not equipped to protect and serve. They reacted more violently to Blacks and are often not held accountable for their actions.
For example, all of the police officers who killed Freddy Gray were acquitted of murder. And the police officer who killed Eric Garner, Daniel Pantaleo, has received a $120,000 pay raise. Police will continue to kill innocent people until police are held accountable for their violent actions against citizens.
All of the officers who shot and killed Gregory Frazier should be fired admittedly and charged with first degree murder for shooting an unarmed man in the back.
