Five of the persons accused in raping a female student who attended Ramapo College have been indicted in connection with the alleged attack: Christian A. Lopez, 26, of Secaucus, NJ; Nakeem Gardner, 20, of Paterson, NJ; Christopher Rainone and Justin Sommers, both 20 both of Staten Island, NY; and Jordyn Massood, 20, of Wayne. Rainone, Sommers and Massood were charged with encouraging or aiding the assault, according to NorthJersey.com.
‘Jane Doe,’ 19, alleges that she was gang raped during a Pi Kappa Alpha party themed “Date Night” on Nov. 14, 2014.
In a federal lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court on Friday, Oct. 21 the woman, whose identity is concealed, describes a painful ordeal in which partygoers played rock-paper-scissors to determine who would be first in sexually assaulting her.
The lawsuit claims that frat members “actively solicited, recruited, and persuaded random students outside of the apartment building to come to this party” when they stood on a balcony at on-campus quarters known as “The Village Townhouses,” at a Ramapo College dorm in Mahwah, New Jersey.
Other underage females were also called into the party, where they were greeted by a 24-year-old frat member in a tuxedo who pushed alcohol on them, the lawsuit claims, and given alcohol.
“They were calling down to recruit guests,” the lawsuit alleges. The alleged victim says that after she passed out due to intoxication, a number of those at the party took turns raping her.
The lawsuit also alleges that while the assaults took place, others stood outside the door and did not intervene.
Jane Doe also alleges that after the assaults, she was taken “without her shoes, underwear, and jacket” to another dorm across campus, where she was raped by others and people “were falling-down laughing hysterically while also videotaping the sexual assault.”
Cathy Davey, spokeswoman for Ramapo College, wrote in an email, “Ramapo College has not received notice of this law suit. As with any litigation, the College cannot comment.”
