As 2017 comes to a close, it’s time we highlight the beauty trends that helped us keep it cute these past 365 days. Between “How-to” tutorials and celebrity cosmetic lines, our Instagram feeds and search engines were saturated in the hair and makeup trends below.
1. Mink lashes
Following closely behind “beauty blender,” mink lashes were ranked No. 2 on Google’s list of most searched beauty terms of the year. Whether you lash-out to embrace your bare face or put the finishing touches on a full-beat, mink lashes are the way to go. It’s safe to say 2017 was a great year for lash technicians.
2. Fenty Beauty
Beauty trends will come and go, but legacies last forever. Rihanna imprinted on the cosmetics world with her introduction of the revolutionary Fenty Beauty, originally celebrated for its expansive, deep color-inclusive range of foundation shades. The pop princess is partially responsible for the influx of metallic makeup, increasing the popularity of shimmery shadows and bold bronzers with her Galaxy collection.
3. Natural hair
Among other “effortless” 2017 staples is natural hair, which is admirable no matter how kinky or curly. For most, the growing popularity of hair in its natural state is rooted in reasons deeper than appearance. It’s become a movement driven by women of diverse backgrounds, making it all the more beautiful.
4. ‘No makeup’ makeup
A dewy, fresh face was a go-to makeup look this year. Don’t feel like wearing a full face of makeup? Opt for the “I barely tried” look. If you struggle trying to pull off a “no makeup” makeup look, try swapping your foundation for coconut oil, build your brows, then highlight and conceal where you see fit.
5. Locs with accessories
This year, dressing your crown was often equally important as dressing your body. Thanks in part to dreaded trendsetters like Kelela and budding duo Chloe x Halle, beads, clips, braid-wire and even gold-hoops found their way into both real and faux dreadlocks this year.
Should any of these beauty trends be left behind in 2017?
