Dame Dash recently confronted Lee Daniels for not repaying him $2 million. Dash confronted Daniels at a Diana Ross concert that took place at Hollywood Bowl earlier this month. A video released by Dash shows the confrontation where Dash asked Daniels about the $2 million. Daniels admitted to being wrong.
Dash was once considered a top mogul in rap during his days as CEO of Roc-A-Fella Records and also served as a producer for several film projects including Paid In Full and The Woodsman.
In 2004, Dash reportedly gave Daniels $2 million so that he could produce The Woodsman. The written agreement was suppose to give Dash executive producer credits, 50 percent of rights on the film and a guarantee that the investment would be repaid with interest from Daniels.
However, Daniels failed to repay Dash any money, according to a lawsuit. Dash initially agreed to drop a lawsuit in 2015 after Daniels said that he would include Dash in future films and TV projects. However, Dash was not included in top projects such as The Butler, “Empire,” and a Richard Pryor biopic.
The incident sheds light on how business between friends can go wrong. Dash helped Daniels as an aspiring filmmaker and never received any money. But after the release of the video of their confrontation, that has since gone viral, Daniels will likely be forced to repay.
On June 26, Dash filed a $5 million lawsuit against Daniels that can be read here.
