The unexpected trade of NBA superstar Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday sent shockwaves reverberating throughout the sports world and pop culture.

Davis is considered one of the most valued free agent acquisitions of the modern era. Universally considered one of top 5 players in the league, Davis leaves the New Orleans Pelicans entering his prime after averaging 26 points, 12 rebounds and 2 block shots during the 2018-19 season.

The Davis trade degutted the Lakers who had to give up three promising players — and future draft picks — to acquire the versatile big man nicknamed “The Brow.” As some NBA players noted below, however, the Pelicans made off like armed bandits after the Lakers had to give up Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and three first-round picks including the No. 4 pick in the 2019 draft, according to ESPN.

But Davis will be paired with three-time NBA champion and four-time league MVP LeBron James, 34, making the Lakers immediate title contenders for this upcoming season and inciting wild chatter throughout the league and among hardcore NBA Fans.

Some pairings of superstars have had disastrous results — check out the trade for Steve Nash and Dwight Howard to the Lakers to join Kobe Bryant, as an example. However, if this trade is successful, the Lakers could raise a new championship banner in the near future.

Check out the reaction from around the NBA and among fans below.
