The 34th annual ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Music Awards brought out the stars

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) celebrated its 34th annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards in Los Angeles, CA on June 20, 2019. The event recognized special honorees and the songwriters and publishers of the most-performed ASCAP songs of the past year on the R&B/hip-hop, rap and gospel chats.

Several well-known artists received awards, including chart-topping rapper Cardi B., who took home the ASCAP Songwriter of the Year Award, which recognizes the song-writer who has written or co-written the greatest number of most-performed songs of the year.


The legendary founder of Motown Records, Berry Gordy Jr., and current Motown president Ethiopia Habtemariam, also took home awards. They both shared the stage as they accepted the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Heritage Award on behalf of their record label.

Tip “T.I” Harris. also took home an award as he was the first recipient of the ASCAP Voice of the Culture Award which honors and celebrates an ASCAP member who has had a major influence on music and culture.
