Chicago State Foundation executive explains org’s fight to close education gap

What programs does the Chicago State Foundation provide to students?

In addition to providing scholarships to deserving student scholars, the Foundation is committed to identifying the human and financial capital necessary to take CSU’s transformational Student Success Initiative to scale. Student Success Initiative represents a carefully curated, comprehensive suite of high-quality academic programming and non-cognitive supports, designed to achieve a common goal: increase student enrollment, retention and graduation rates.

What do you hope for the future of the Chicago State Foundation?

CSU President Zaldwaynaka “Z” Scott has articulated a clear and [transformational] vision for affecting measurable and sustainable increases in student enrollment, persistence, and graduation, so the future looks incredibly bright. To be certain, this is going to be a heavy lift, but the initial response to the President’s vision from our funding partners, alumni and other stakeholders suggests that the foundation has the full-throated support of the “village” in our efforts to bring to bear the time, talent and treasure needed to close the education and wealth gap in Chicagoland.

Currently, Chicago State Foundation has an endowment of just under $7M. I am bound and determined to grow Chicago State Foundation’s endowment to a level on par with those of universities serving similar student populations like Wayne State University in Detroit and Georgia State University.
