‘Know My Name’: Chanel Miller reclaims her life after sexual assault

Miller refuses to be reduced to the status of “Brock Taylor’s victim.” She considers herself a survivor, writer, artist, and comedian. Readers get insights into the assault that interrupted Miller’s life and affected her interpersonal relationships. The legal system proved to be broken and biased, putting Miller through a lengthy and arduous process, while adding additional trauma. With her assailant being a white male and Miller being an Asian-American woman, the media reported their own narrative while she would observe from behind the scenes, remaining incognito.  Every decision and action Miller made was scrutinized and criticized publicly causing her to struggle with feelings of shame and victim blaming. Miller had no idea that pursuing justice would present so many challenges.

Included in the book is the full victim impact statement, as well as police records, media coverage, court documents, and more. Know My Name brings to light the fight victims face in the pursuit of justice and taking their power back..

Chanel Miller is a writer and artist based in California. She holds a bachelor’s degree in literature from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
