Former LSU coach Johnny Jones coaches the Texas Southern men’s program. He was an assistant coach on LSU’s staff when O’Neal became the No. 1 pick in 1992.
The Houston-based school is also the institution rapper Megan Thee Stallion graduated from this year. Cynthia Cooper-Dyke, who has been argued to be the greatest WNBA player of all time, coaches the women’s basketball team. O’Neal’s daughter, Amirah, transferred from LSU to play for Cooper-Dyke this season. Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Strahan also played at Texas Southern and gave the football team new helmets this season.
