What was it that drew you to this story?
EN: I love the diversity within the characters. We all have a very different purpose and very different skills. It’s wonderful to see this sort of pageantry of Blackness on the page and then to see how they put that together drew me in instantly. I love the setting of a vineyard run by Black people. I’ve never seen that before, on television or on [a movie] screen.
IW: I was attracted to the character. I want to see what’s inside him, the nuance, what’s in his soul and I want to bring that out. That, to me, is where things really start to work with everybody. The casting on the show has been fantastic.
