Johnny Wright, the celebrity hairstylist, wrapped up his highly anticipated Naturally You Tour with a captivating art exhibit and artist talk during Art Basel Miami 2023. The event, titled “UNTANGLED: Combing through the Roots of Black Hair,” was a collaboration between Wright as well as curators Jarvis DuBois and Gia Harewood.

The grand finale of the Naturally You Tour took place from Dec. 7 to Dec. 8, showcasing a stunning art exhibition that celebrated the beauty and cultural significance of natural hair within the Black community. Co-curators DuBois and Harewood carefully selected a diverse group of talented artists to display their work at the event.

Inspired by his bestselling book, Natural and Curly Hair for Dummies, Wright aimed to go beyond a traditional book signing and create a space where individuals from all walks of life could come together, share their stories and challenge societal biases surrounding self-image and identity.

Thanks to the support of MYAVANA and Carol’s Daughter, the three-day exhibit featured a remarkable collection of artwork that symbolized the celebration of beauty, resilience and cultural pride associated with Black hair. Artists such as Michael Booker, Lisa Brown, Olivia Bruce and Ralston Cyrus, among others, contributed their unique perspectives to the exhibition.

In addition to the art display, the event included an engaging artist talk moderated by Wright himself, as well as a live hair demonstration by the talented Naeemah Lafond. The exhibit concluded with an intimate private dinner hosted by Carol’s Daughter.

The Naturally You Tour aimed to empower and celebrate the diverse beauty of natural hair within the Black community. Through thought-provoking exhibitions, enlightening discussions and interactive experiences, the tour challenged societal norms and fostered a sense of pride and empowerment for all attendees.
