Former NFL superstar Cam Newton got jumped by multiple men at a football camp he participated in, but it appears that Newton came out on top despite the odds.

According to Fox News,  Newton was apparently ambushed by men from Top Shelf Performance, who had teams playing in the inaugural “We Ball Sports” 7v7 tournament in Atlanta on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024. Newton had his squad, “C1N” team participating in the event.

According to the footage taken at the event in Atlanta, Newton was trying to break up a fight when he got mixed up in the middle of the melee and was forced to defend himself.

The video shows Newton manhandling his attackers despite the fact they were coming at him from multiple directions. The 6-foot-6 Newton was wearing one of his signature hats that never got knocked off his head during the duration of the fight.

The publication theorized that the altercation could have stemmed from braggadocio that Newton often engages in before the 7×7 tournaments, saying on Instagram:

“If you beat my team – 15U C1N Red or 18UC1N Platinum – I will pay every single player on the team. Tell me who’s doing that? If that ain’t putting your money where your mouth is, I don’t know what to say.”

TopShelf Performance’s general manager, Steph Brown, responded on his Instagram Story on Saturday, saying, “We need that up out ya @cameron1newton or you can write a check payable too [sic] @topshelf7v7.”

In a subsequent IG post, Brown added, “It Ain’t No Fun When the [rabbit emoji] Got the [watergun emoji],” while tagging C1N’s 7v7 team account.

Onlookers and the police were eventually able to break up the fight and restore order. No details have been provided as to what precipitated the brawl, and police have declined to provide details to multiple inquiring media outlets as of Sunday evening.

Cam Newton is a legend at Auburn and Carolina

Newton torpedoed to national fame when he won the 2010 Heisman Trophy as the premiere football player at Auburn. His legacy was greatly enhanced by also defeating archrival Alabama before going on to win the national championship. He was the first overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft and immediately broke rookie quarterback records before guiding the Panthers for nine of his 10 years in the league. In 2015, Newton won the league MVP and led the Panthers to the Super Bowl.
