Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese says she’s ready to start the forthcoming WNBA season and that she’s excited about the buzz surrounding her draft class and its impact on the league.
During a team press conference on Wednesday, April 24, the 21-year-old former LSU Tigers star expressed her joy at the warm welcome she and fellow lottery pick Kamilla Cardoso have received from the city and organization. This inclusive atmosphere has set the stage for an exciting season ahead.
“They were telling me they were super excited for us to come here and be in this amazing league, and being able to be embraced by vets is something that I love and being able to be appreciated,” Reese said.
This year’s draft class was arguably the most celebrated in league history. The addition of several players expected to make an immediate impact, including Reese and Cardoso, no. 6 pick Aaliyah Edwards, and no. 1 overall pick Caitlin Clark, has sparked hope and excitement for the future of women’s professional basketball.
“I think we’re going up right now,” the 6’3″ forward says. “Being able to see so many [improvements] with the networks, with the ticket sales, with the jersey sales. I think we’re going in a really great direction.”
The Chicago Sky kick off their preseason against the Minnesota Lynx on May 4.
