The WNBA is experiencing popularity like never before and is capitalizing on that as much as possible.
The league recently announced a new series called “Year 1,” which provides a behind-the-scenes perspective of the seasons for some of the top rookies in the WNBA. The series follows Seattle Storm guard Nika Mühl, Los Angeles Sparks forward Rickea Jackson, and Chicago Sky front court stars Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso.
“Year 1” is currently streaming its first episode, “Acclimating,” on YouTube and the WNBA app.
“Year 1 takes fans beyond the basketball court, following rookies as they learn to balance their personal lives with the demands of being a professional athlete,” the WNBA’s statement read in a press release. “The show also spotlights the rookies’ wins and losses, both on and off the court. The series will showcase numerous key events throughout the season, including the WNBA Draft presented by State Farm, WNBA Training Camp, first WNBA Games, WNBA All-Star Weekend & Olympic Break, second-half of season, end of season and WNBA playoffs.”
Out of the group, Reese is the lone All-Star selection, an accomplishment that had her in tears in Atlanta on July 2 because of so many doubters skeptical about whether her college success would translate to the professional level. She currently holds the WNBA record for double-doubles in 11 consecutive games.
