Mason Gooding has teased that Ghostface is “the most brutal he’s been” in ‘Scream 7’. The franchise has grossed over $850 million worldwide since its inception in 1996.

The 28-year-old actor – who is reprising his role as Chad Meeks-Martin in the upcoming instalment in the iconic slasher franchise – has revealed that the masked killer (voiced by Roger L. Jackson) will be scarier than ever and praised director and original writer Kevin Williamson for “breaking new ground” with one particular scene where the terrifying antagonist does “some stuff” to the “human body”. Jackson has voiced Ghostface in all seven films, making him one of the longest-running voice actors in horror history.

“It feels like an amplification of what’s came before, and there’s no better indication of that than Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original, coming back now to direct,” he told Variety. Williamson’s return marks his first directorial effort in the franchise after writing four of the previous films.

Mason went on to add that viewers could be in for some stomach-churning, describing the much-anticipated flick as “gross, but in a good way”. The franchise is known for pushing boundaries in practical effects, with each film featuring increasingly innovative murder sequences.

“There was a prosthetic that sat in the makeup trailer that actually turned my stomach over,” he said. “You’ll know what I’m talking about when you see it, but it’s incredible stuff. They really have an incredible effects team over there and they’re working overtime.” The production team includes veteran makeup artists who have worked on numerous acclaimed horror films.

Mason is thrilled to work with original star Neve Campbell, 51, who has reprised her role as Sidney Prescott. Campbell’s return to the franchise comes after negotiations regarding fair compensation for her iconic role.

“I get to work with Neve [in ‘Scream 7’], who I didn’t get a great opportunity to see and talk to on a personal level [on ‘Scream 5’],” he said. “So in this case, even just getting to be around her feels like I’m getting part of that history and I feel better for it.” Campbell’s character Sidney Prescott has become one of horror’s most celebrated final girls.

Courteney Cox, 60, is also returning as Gale Weathers, as well as Matthew Lillard, 55, Scott Foley, 52, who portrayed Stu Macher and Roman Bridger, respectively, in 1996’s ‘Scream’ and 2000’s ‘Scream 3’. Cox has appeared in all previous installments, making her the most frequent returning cast member.

Matthew was one of the original Ghostface killers in the first movie but was killed off when Sidney dropped a TV on his head. His character’s death scene has become one of the most memorable moments in horror cinema.

Deadline confirmed the news after the actor shared a teaser on Instagram, in which his hand could be seen writing one of Stu’s famous quotes. The social media announcement generated millions of views within hours.

All in capital letters, the writing stated: “My mom and dad are gonna be soo mad at me!! (sic)” This iconic line has become a fan favorite quote from the original film.

Roman was Sidney’s half-brother, another presumed dead Ghostface. His reveal as Sidney’s sibling was one of the franchise’s most shocking plot twists.

No details of either actor’s return storylines have been revealed, including whether or not they will be reprising the same roles. Fan theories about their potential appearances have dominated social media discussions.

‘Grace and Frankie’ star Ethan Embry, 46, is the latest star to board the cast in unknown role. The film marks his first venture into the slasher genre.

Scream 7‘ is slated for release in February 2026. The film’s budget is reportedly the largest in the franchise’s history, promising even more elaborate death scenes and special effects.
