With a flavorful mix of old-school and new-school jams and fruit-inspired Hennessy drinks flowing from the bar, the attendees at the Late Nights & Early Mornings album release party for singer-songwriter, Marsha Ambrosius were in a festive mood. But no one was more excited or grateful than the lady of the hour, Ambrosius, who beamed during every second of her party at New York City’s Samsung Experience in Columbus Circle. Rolling out was in the thick and we have the top three highlights from the festivities.

altAmbrosius Wants to Make You Moan

Ambrosius’ voice is a beautiful instrument that truly soars when she seductively coos, and voices breathy aahs, soulful moans and passionate falsettos. She proved this when she performed the album’s title cut. As Ambrosius explained, the album should come with the following warning: “Listen to it responsibly and be safe, ‘cause it’s baby-making music.”

Ambrosius Isn’t Afraid to be Controversial or Vulnerable

Ambrosius made an impact with her video, “Far Away,” as the subject matter helped keep the topics of bullying, suicide and gay rights in the national media spotlight. The video follows a doomed romance between two men. One of them swallows a bottle of pills after being harassed due to his sexuality. As Ambrosius expressed to the crowd, writing the song with Sterling Simms was an experience of real artistry. “At the time, everyone was in a vulnerable personal place in their lives. I’m glad I got to see how artists can let go and be true,” she said.

More of today’s mainstream music would be this authentic and powerful if record labels encouraged other artists to be as brave.

Ambrosius Has Progressed

After the demise of Floetry, it was a challenge for Ambrosius to develop the confidence to pursue a solo career. After four years of hard work she was overwhelmed that her shining moment had finally arrived. “It actually happened. I can’t believe it. My face hurts from smiling so hard. I can’t take it,” she said.

Ambrosius’ diligence is paying off as two J Records executives made a surprise announcement that they expect her to place high on the music charts next week. Ambrosius’ face is about to be in a lot more pain from smiling.
