‘Preachers of L.A.’ Atlanta luncheon
Just weeks before their reality TV debut, five dynamic preachers blessed Atlanta with their presence. The cast of Oxygen’s “Preachers of L.A.,” recently came together for an intimate chew and chat with the city’s press and gospel dignitaries.
Spotted on the scene was Dottie Peoples who praised the men of God for their reality show with teachable moments, as well as Pastor Sabrina McKenzie of “Big Rich Atlanta” fame.
The cast that consists of Pastor Wayne Chaney of Antioch Church of Long Beach, Bishop Ron Gibson of Life Church Of God In Christ, Bishop Clarence McClendon of Full Harvest International Church, Minister Deitrick Haddon and Pastor Jay Haizlip of The Sanctuary in Orange County took questions from the crowd and gave candid responses.
At one point, the men of God were asked to dish on female fans who are enamored by their pastoral positions and who may approach them both inside and outside the church.
“I’ve learned the hard way,” said Minister Deitrick Haddon who had a child out of wedlock and lived with his baby’s mother. “You have to have somebody there to hold you accountable there are all kinds of women. Gospel stars are just like rock stars in the eyes of these people. In order to maintain, you have to have a prayer life and you have to have a team around you to say, ‘Oh watch her, that Jezebel! There she goes!’ he added. “I keep a team around me like that. You must to have people around you to hold you accountable.”
“I agree with him there are certain safety precautions we need to take because of our positions and the responsibilities that come with it. At the same time, I don’t carry myself with an ‘I’m open for business sign,” added Pastor Jay Haizlip. “You can tell when someone flirts with you. Just because someone flirts with you it doesn’t mean I have to flip the switch and say, ‘I’m open for business.'”
On the program, viewers will see the clergy at church and at home living their personal lives. Haddon will butt heads with Bishop Clarence McClendon before going from heartthrob to family man in a special ceremony.
Bishop Ron Gibson will recount his days as a drug addict and leader of the Crypts gang before ministering to gang bangers with his handgun a.k.a his “keeper of the peace” on his person.
Pastor Wayne Chaney will give viewers an intimate look at his “spiritual and sexy” time with his wife, while Pastor Jay Haizlip will minister to downtrodden people on the street.
Oxygen’s ‘Preachers of L.A.’ premieres October 9 at 10/9c.
