Steel Magnolias Trailer Released

If you’ve been itching to see what changes Lifetime made to a popular 80s film, you’re in luck now that the official trailer has been released. Kenny Leon, the brains behind 2008’s “A Raisin In The Sun,” has an all-star cast of black actors on his hand for a remake of Steel Magnolias.

With the tagline “No one blossoms alone,” the trailer shows Latifah starring as M’Lynn, while Rashad and Woodard will costar as bickering buddies Clairee and Ouiser. A number of scenes are panned out at a beauty shop owned by Truvy (Jill Scott) and include Condola Rashad, the daughter of Phylicia, as Shelby. Shelby steals several scenes in the trailer after announcing her pregnancy, one that M’Lynn is worried her body can’t handle. Shelby is a diabetic.

The film has previously been described as the “passion project” of Lifetime president Nancy Dubuc and EVP Programming Robert Sharenow.
