Ottavio Missoni, founder of the Italian fashion house, dies

Ottavio Missoni founder of the great fashion house, Missoni has died today at the age of 92 in Italy, surrounded by his family. A press release has been posted stating that he died peacefully and was surrounded by love. Missoni is known for introducing amazing prints and knits in bold, luxurious colors. They are the label that is responsible for influencing Australian sweater makers, Coogi’s, look and feel.

Ottavio got his start in the 1948 Olympic Games. He represented Italy as a hurdler and started designing knitted tracksuits for athletes. His designs were then adopted by the Italian Olympic team. The Missoni brand came when he and his wife, Rosita went into business shortly after. The label had a tremendous turnover in 2012, generating 59 million in sales and opened 40 stores around the world. It is a family based brand and its accessories are designed by Ottavio’s granddaughter, Margherita, who is also the labels ambassador.  Ottavio is survived by his wife Rosita, his two other children, Luca and Angela and grandchildren.
