Beyoncé is going to prove that she can act one way or another. And apparently, studios are going to give Bey Bey plenty of chances to do just that.
Emboldened by her adequate performance in last year’s Obsession from Rainforest Films, the record-breaking Grammy Award winner is set to star in the fourth remake of the age-old classic A Star is Born with Academy Award-winning actor Russell Crowe.
Crowe, 45, who played opposite Denzel Washington in the box-office smash American Gangsta and won a Best Actor Oscar for Gladiator, is said to be seriously considering the role of the aging pop star who first mentors, then is seduced by, his protégé. The last remake of A Star is Born starred Beyoncé’s idol, Barbara Streisand, back in 1976. Reports have already surfaced that the role would include a steamy love scene between the two A-list stars that would involve some nudity.
If both parties agree to take on the film, it would be the biggest interracial screen production since Whitney Houston played a pop diva with Kevin Costner in 1992’s Bodyguard. This movie would be chance to prove the box-office mettle for both actors. Crowe hasn’t had a hit film in years, and Beyoncé is still trying to convince moviegoers that she can carry a film after the music superstar’s inadequacies were exposed in Dreamgirls and Cadillac Records. –terry shropshire
