Earlier this month, R. Kelly fans across the globe were shocked to learn that his 14-year-old child had come out online as a transgender boy telling the world that he was now going by Jay instead of Jaya. At the time, Jay shared that his mother and siblings were very supportive of his transition. However, he explained that he was unsure if his father knew because his father has not been present in his life. Now, R. Kelly has finally broken his silence on the matter and said he supports his son.
R. Kelly spoke about his son Jay while backstage at WCGI’s Summer Jam show in Chicago. And although his long-winded response was vague and off-topic at times, he did eventually explain that he supported his son.
Read his full comment below:
“You don’t wanna really open it up with saying my daughter is becoming my son. Because, if that were true — don’t even give the blogs that kind of credit.
Real talk, but as far as that’s concerned. Always believe what you see — with your own eyes that is. That’s the best way to go about this business. You know, I’ve heard a lot of things about a lot of people and it was never true.
You get to a point where you start counting your money, you start counting the future, you start counting the past and you start to make some sense out of things.
No matter what they are, who they are, they’re still your kids. You love them, you gotta support them. You gotta support them. You get rid of that big house and knock it down to size and you save that money because it’s not about me no more, it’s about them. It’s about three lovely, lovely kids that I am in love with and that’s in love with me.
Even when you see it with your own eyes, you have to know that it’s a backstory and a background and that’s why you can’t judge nobody.”
Well, it seems that perhaps R. Kelly still has some things work out within himself when it comes to embracing his son’s identity in public, but it is still good to hear that he loves all of his children unconditionally. – nicholas robinson
