7-Year-Old Girl Killed by Detroit Police to be Buried Saturday; 5 Acts of Terrorism by Police in 2010

Community activists continue to speak out against the senseless death of a 7 year-old. Aiyana Jones was killed by a Detroit police officer after being shot in the neck as she slept. While filming an episode of the A& E reality show “First 48,” the Detroit police raided Jones’ home by throwing a flash grenade threw the window and busting through the front door. Police were looking for Chauncey Louis Owens, 34, who is charged with murdering a 17-year-old high school student over a dirty look. The Rev. Al Sharpton will deliver Jones’ eulogy on Saturday.

Blacks across the nation continue to be terrorized by police who blatantly disregard their lives. Here are five other acts of terrorism by police in 2010. –a.r.


1. March 8 – New York police shot and killed a 22 year-old man in Brooklyn who was holding a toy gun.

2. April 3 – Willie Miller was shot in the chest by a Chicago police after he was a part of a crowd who dispersed when police arrived at East Garfield Park. Although police reported that Miller pointed a gun at them, Miller’s sister, Tacarla Tribble, says that her brother was unarmed.


3. Jan. 30 – Aaron Marcell Campbell, 25, was shot with an AR-15 rifle by a police officer in Portland. Campbell was grieving over the death of his brother and apparently battling depression. However, police officers showed little patience and killed Campbell because he resisted arrest.

4. March – A man was shot and killed by police officers after arguing with two policemen outside Duke University hospital.

5. Los Angeles Police officers shot and killed Steven Washington who, according to the police report, reached into his waistband after being confronted by police. However, it was later discovered that Washington was unarmed.
