Lebron James, arguably the NBA player with the most complete set of basketball skills alive today, has reportedly teamed up with rapper-filmmaker Ice Cube for a movie about King James’ life.

According to The Plain Dealer, the Cleveland Cavaliers superstar will star in a one-hour drama that will be based on James’ life as a black basketball player in a small town. James was reared in an impoverished single-mother household in Akron, Ohio, a 45-minute drive from Cleveland.

The movie is slated to debut on ABC next fall.

James and the Cavaliers are enjoying unprecedented success in the humble history of the franchise. They’ve already been to the NBA title game in 2007, their first trip ever, and have enjoyed the NBA’s best record for the second consecutive season, another first. They collected a record number of home wins and overall games with 66 in 2008-09. Last year, James became the first Cavs player to win the league’s MVP award and is the front-runner to claim the top individual prize again.

The James’ film will be the third televison project for Ice Cube, who pioneered gangsta rap and West Coast hip-hop as part of the legendary N.W.A of the late 1980s. In 2006, Cube produced a FX reality show called “Black.White.” He also has signed on as an executive producer for an upcoming copy comedy series for NBC.  –terry shropshire
