Terrell Owens’ struggles may have hit an all-time low. The embattled wide receiver started his career as one of the most talented football players during his generation, and he will likely end it by being cut by an off-brand team that exists in an off-brand league.
On May 29, Owens was released by the Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League. In a statement, the team revealed that they cut Owens because he refused to play in upcoming road games in Nebraska and the state of Washington. The team officials also said Owens didn’t show up to a scheduled appearance at a children’s hospital.
Owens decided to sign with the Allen Wranglers after NFL teams passed on him during the 2011 season. Along with his troubles on the field, Owens has had problems dealing with unpaid child support and home foreclosures. He recently appeared on “Dr. Phil” to confront the mothers of his kids about his lack of involvement in his children’s lives.
Owens’ sad story continues to serve as a reminder of how fickle fame and fortune can be when it’s not handled properly.
