Despite a good amount of skepticism from die-hard fans and attacks from Whitney Houston’s mother, Cissy Houston, last night Lifetime debuted their made-for-TV film, “Whitney,” depicting the “I Will Always Love You” singer’s talent, trials and tribulations prior to her passing at the age of 48.
While there was certainly plenty of sarcasm present throughout the telecast via social media, the average viewer appeared to be pleasantly surprised by executive producer Angela Bassett’s handy work and actress Yaya DaCosta’s overall performance.
“There was a pressure to keep it real and not be offensive — this is a real person who really lived that everybody knows and loves,” DaCosta told E! before the big premiere.
