Demetria Lucas interview
On Sunday, March 16, Demetria Lucas marked the end of her first taste of reality television with help from SKYY vodka and Atlanta’s bar ONE lounge. The beauty was joined by a bevy of influencers, fans and fellow unscripted stars, including Africa Miranda (“The New Atlanta”), Peter Thomas (“Real Housewives of Atlanta”) and Toya Bush-Harris (“Married to Medicine) for a “Blood, Sweat and Heels” finale party.
In between toasting with SKYY Infusions Georgia Peach cocktails, Lucas dished with rolling out about her reality TV experience and shared why she was initially apprehensive about it.
“It’s been a wild ride but nine episodes in we’re coming to close this season,” said Lucas. “I initially didn’t wanna do it. I’ve written a lot about reality TV and I’ve been very critical about the portrayal of black women in reality TV, but they broke down what the show was about; professional women in New York City. I knew some of the other ladies that were being considered and they had brands and something to protect. So I thought we’d behave a little better than some of the other ladies on some of the other shows.”
Now out of the glare of Bravo cameras, Lucas is working on a national potentially life-saving campaign with OraQuick at-home HIV testing. Additionally, after experiencing success with her book, A Belle In Brooklyn, the seasoned relationship expert is releasing her second tome this spring.
“I’m working on a national campaign with OraQuick at-home HIV testing so I’m really excited about that and I have my second book, Don’t Waste Your Pretty, coming out on May 20. That’s a hard-core advice guide that’s based on my Ask.Fm and Formspring [accounts], I’ve answered probably 35,000 questions in the last four years. So it’s the most frequently asked questions with in-depth answers.”
