While Palmer is adamant in her belief that young adults have to assert themselves — with everyone from colleagues to family — she also still looks to her mother for the kind of support and guidance that she’s always counted on. Her mother helps keep her grounded, balanced and gives her feedback on her work that Keke finds invaluable. “When I’m doing my job and I feel like things are good, I’ll look to my mom and I’ll say ‘How was that to you?’ and she’ll say, ‘Great!’ ” she says with a laugh. “And I’ll feel so much better.”
The support of her family and belief in herself have been the cornerstones of Palmer’s life and career thus far. “I didn’t come from a lot,” she says. “I had a lot of love and support from my family, but as far as money and that type of thing, I didn’t really have any of that. All I did was follow my dreams. If my fans take anything from me, I hope it would be that. It’s not just me being so special — they are, too. They just haven’t realized it yet.”
