a.p. & cool-aide – loud and clear
Radio Personalities/Hot 102.7
When working on-air in radio, developing a connection with an audience
and having chemistry with your colleague is essential. On Detroit’s Hot
102.7 FM, the chemistry is more than evident between radio
personalities A.P. and Cool-Aide, better known to the Motor City as the
female and male duo Hood Starz.
“We get live; you never know what we’re gonna do,” pops A.P.
Cool-Aide quickly jumps in, saying, “I’ve been doing comedy for 13
years, so I bring that to the table, and [A.P.] brings her
‘ghettoness.’ So our personalities really go together.”
A.P. concurs with that assessment: “On the air you can hear it; it’s just a perfect match.”
Having been on-air for a little more than two months now, both Detroit
natives initially had individual slots on the Radio One station. “We
were in our boss’ office one day just kicking it and he saw the
chemistry. The light bulb just went off in his head,” chimes Cool-Aide.
Now a power duo featured on Saturdays from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and
Sundays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., the Hood Starz are local celebrities
putting the city of Detroit on their shoulders.
Cool-Aide already boasts extensive comedy experience, including
numerous appearances on BET’s “Comic View” and Bill Bellamy’s “Who’s
Got Jokes” on TV One. With a large local fan base, the Hood Starz and
Hot 102.7 are primed for even more success. “Hopefully, we’ll be off
the weekends and in a full-time, every day slot during the week with a
big movement behind us,” says A.P. – jason thompson
