random acts of love

Big ideas intrigue me. I like to
be around people who dream
really big and draw way outside
the lines in their lives. The idea
of a small gesture or kindness
having a huge impact on someone
else’s life is interesting. Love
is a big, complicated concept,
but when it’s broken down into
daily portions of small kind acts,
it seems more accessible.

Take a smile, for instance.
Small gesture. Big impact. You
never know whose life might be
changed through a simple smile.
So bring a little sunshine to
someone today by smiling. That
smile just might uplift someone
who’s depressed. That smile just
might let someone in pain know
they are not alone. That toothy
expression might be returned to
you, and in turn, make you smile
even wider. Children seem to
intuitively know the precious currency
that is generated through
smiling, since they do so often
and freely.

Send a random act of love to a
friend or relative in a note telling
them how special they are and
how much they mean to you.
Pluck a wildflower and press the
dried petals between the pages
of the note, and tell your friend
how the flower made you think of
them. Or use a fallen leaf or a
small shell from the beach to
express your feelings. The object
you choose doesn’t matter, as
long as you express yourself sincerely.

You don’t have to spend a
dime to bestow a random act of
love on someone. As a matter of
fact, it’s more creative if you
don’t use money. That’s the
beauty of freely dispensing love
and kindness. It doesn’t cost a
thing, except time and effort.
Gifts given with no strings
attached from the heart or hands
are the sweetest gifts of all. So
you want to save the world? Start
small. Smile. Peace.
