Manager of African American Marketing, The Home Depot
The peace and contentment that adorns Melissa Brown’s countenance
apparently emanates from her fulfilling work at The Home Depot, whose
corporate philosophy is completely congruent with her core values. As
the manager of African American marketing, Brown has helped The Home
Depot create mutually beneficial partnerships with iconic African
American entities throughout the nation – such as here at the 98th
NAACP convention in Detroit.
“Through all of those avenues,
the goal is to get out into the community and allow people to see the
things that we’re doing, so that when they see us in the community,
they will be more inclined to shop with us when they want to do home
improvement,” says Brown of Home Depot, who also has strategic
partnerships with “The Tom Joyner Morning Show,” “The Steve Harvey
Morning Show” and CW’s “Girlfriends.”
That The Home Depot’s
intentions are pure is of paramount importance to Brown. “The joy that
I get from being in this position is really being able to be a part of
something that is so huge,” she says, noting that Home Depot sponsors
such things as the Tom Joyner Fantastic Voyage, and “Make It Happen”
home improvements on Thursdays at 9 a.m. with Steve Harvey. “I really
like going out and touching the African American community and knowing
that the company’s intentions are all good. And to [be] on the first
level of seeing that being done is the joy that I get.” – terry shropshire
