President/CEO, South Central Community Services
In urban settings, the communal spirit and togetherness of citizens has
long been the foundation for community development and improvement.
Sadly, in the aftermath of such devastating crises as the crack
epidemic and HIV/AIDS; much of that togetherness has been lost. South
Central Community Services is fighting the good fight — and doing their
part to maintain that sense of unity. President Felicia Blassingame
believes in taking care of the people. “[We are] a comprehensive social
service agency that has been doing business for over 35 years in the
community,” she explains. “We are in the business of servicing the
community.”
South Central Community Services has worked hard for the people over
the course of that 35 years, and continues to raise awareness about
issues and raise funds to provide solutions. Dr. Blassingame and her
staff have organized various events, including an especially wonderful
casino night, all in the name of serving and helping to heal. “We are
raising funds to continue the various programs in the city of Chicago,”
shares Blassingame. “It’s all about having fun, but while you’re having
fun, you’re raising funds.”
For Dr. Blassingame, it’s more than just a social responsibility. Her
motivation comes from a real love for her city and community. “It is my
passion and my dream to always give back to the community,” she says.
“I’ve been living [that] dream for 28 years. My quest is to make sure
our children, youth and seniors in the community have what they need.”
