Seemingly a million truths about the singer-songwriter are divulged in Dreams To Remember: The Legacy Of Otis Redding, a compilation of full-length performances and interviews on DVD. Through footage with Stax Records founder Jim Stewart, Redding’s widow, Zelma, and Stax guitarist Steve Cropper, among others, we learn about Redding’s history, enthusiasms and fascinating talent with music. It might surprise some to see the icon of the 1960s in music videos, too. But that’s essentially what these clips of tunes such as “I Can’t Turn You Loose” and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” are. A 24-page booklet with an essay by award-winning writer Rob Bowman completes this rich historical document. – forrest green III
