Keishunn Reed is in the midst of creating an entertainment empire. As the president and CEO of Jaeiou Entertainment, Reed has transformed an independent record company into one of the fastest growing small businesses in the South. “My brother [Marcus] and I created Just Us Records so that we could release music through our own imprint,” Reed says. “But we decided to use our resources to expand the business.” Along with their record company, Jaeiou Entertainment now has a management company, clothing line and a gospel label.
Jaeiou Entertainment manages notable Houston artists such Punkin From Pluto and Se7en. “We help artists from conception to the completion of their projects,” Reed says. “We help them get their albums recorded, their videos done and we help with promotions. We’re a one-stop shop for artists.”
Reed and his brother are also working on developing an Internet café in the Houston area called the Artitorium. Reed believes that the only thing that separates him from his peers is hard work. “I think the major obstacle that newcomers to this industry face is that they don’t realize the long hours that you have to put in,” he says. “A lot of people overlook things that are important. I do business the correct way. You have to understand how to do the paperwork and contracts. If you don’t have the financial knowledge on how to run a company, it will be hard to remain successful.” –amir shaw
