Comedian

George Willborn’s knack for finding humor in topics ranging from bad breath to bad kids, has made him a hit with audiences around the country. He’s appeared on “Def Comedy Jam,” BET’s “Comic View,” and TV One’s “Bill Bellamy’s Who’s Got Jokes” competition, which he won. Wilborn co-hosts the nationally syndicated radio show, “The Michael Baisden Show,” and his one-hour comedy special “I Don’t Want to Be No Star” is currently airing on TV One.

Willborn explains of the title, “I Don’t Want to Be No Star,” that while he welcomes the wealth that comes with being a successful comedian, he doesn’t want to get bigheaded. “I don’t want the jadedness, or get to the point where I think I’m better than anybody else” he says.

Willborn believes that his success stems from not having to worry about being anyone but himself. “The most gratifying thing about all this is I get to be myself . whether it’s stand-up or television shows, all of them allow me to be myself,” he says.

Willborn promotes belief in one’s self and confidence in one’s own talent, but cautions against bitterness. “It’s easy to say, but when you get 15 years down the road and you haven’t accomplished some of the goals you set or see others obtaining, it’s essential.”

George Willborn continually credits his wife Peytyn, and children George and Teara for his happiness and success. “Because [success] means nothing if I can’t share it with my family,” says Willborn. – cherice e. norman
