Wayne County Circuit Court Judge hopeful, attorney Robert E. Harris, is concerned about the blatant issues of injustice and unfairness that plague his city. But unlike many who simply point an accusing finger, Harris is determined to do something about it. “I’ve been practicing law in the county of Wayne for about 15 years. I have a 100 percent success record in the federal court for criminal law; I haven’t had a single client sentenced [to] even a day of jail time,” Harris states, adding that his passion and excitement for his job help him remain focused.

“I think that the people of Detroit really miss the boat sometimes, because we don’t know where the real seat of power is,” he says. “[It’s] in the judicial system; [however,] we get caught up in other politics and don’t really know who we place in office. What I would like to do is bring the service back to the people.”

Driven by his need to address matters that affect citizens, such as the privatization of the Friend of the Court and consumer protection in favor of the people (as opposed to insurance companies), Harris is certain that his election as judge would be significant in making progress in the courtroom.

“I need the mandate of the people,” he explains. “If I get into office, I’m going to do my job and bring honor and respect to that court.” – janaya black
