ashford & simpson- the warner bros. years: hits, remixes & rarities
Rhino Records
This two-disc set features tracks from the nine albums that Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson recorded at Warner Brosthers from 1973 to 1982. In the ‘70s, Simpson’s brother Jimmy began lengthening the duo’s album tracks for dance purposes, resulting in greater access for club DJs and perhaps the term “remix music.” Many of the cuts here reflect the “extended pleasure” ethos as pioneered by ‘70s producers such as Giorgio Moroder and Tom Moulton. Remember to stop and breathe. Disc two contains up-to-date remixes by well-respected remixers and absolutely radiates brilliance. – forrest green III
