Stones Throw

Do we really need another ghetto-centric rapper rhymin’ about crime on
a record? How about another Detroit MC doing it? Guess what? Guilty
Simpson pulls this concept off with a righteous throwdown that even
honors his idol Kool G. Rap mightily. Here, often concussive beats
accompany a burgeoning wordsmith (a couplet discloses, “They wanna see
the crew with cases/they tell me that I’m too abrasive”). Guilty even
respects Detroit’s musical roots with a bit of techno on “Footwork” on
this laudable album.
